The Koperasi Pedagang Kopi Ketiara Cooperative has over 890 growers that tend to over 830 hectares of land. Rahmah, the chairwoman of the Ketiara Cooperative, has been running and maintaining the coffee business of her family. Her father began work in the coffee industry more than 20 years ago–locally trading coffee and supplying most of the exporters in Medan, the capital of North Sumatra. Two years ago, Rahmah established the Ketiara Cooperative to help organize the farmers. The women-run cooperative has also created extensive programs for women’s health and educational courses.
